Proudly Presents the second

Strathyre Music Festival

24th & 25th May 2014

Strathyre Scotland

Featuring many of the artists that made the 2013 Festival such a popular and successful event. Plus many new special guests and new attractions.

The 2014 Festival will be much bigger than the first event and this time, centred fully around the Beautiful and natural mountainous amphitheatre setting of, Strathyre in a large single tent venue with nearby Festival Market and several Festival Busking stations also featuring a dedicated indoor Jazz and Blues venue

We are delighted to have won the accolade of being Scotland's largest community based Music Festival in 2014.

We are grateful to have the support of Visit Scotland / event Scotland and are honoured to be promoted on the Homecoming Scotland 2014 programme. The 2014 festival will feature a large number of new artists and the Associated Festival Market will be more than double in size with a special theme .

A special big thanks need to given to the generous grant award granted from the National Lottery through the Celebrate programme. This has allowed us to deliver all the key elements of the Festival.

Bonnie Strathyre

There's meadows in Lanark and mountains in Skye.

And pastures in Hielands and Lowlands forbye:

But there's nae greater luck that the heart could desire

Than to herd the fine cattle in Bonnie Strathyre.

O, it's up in the morn and awa' to the hill,

When the lang simmer days are sae warm and sae still

Till the peak o' Ben Voirlich is girdled wi' fire,

And the evenin' fa's gently on bonnie Strathyre.

Then there's mirth in the sheiling and love in my breast,

When the sun is gane doun and the kye are at rest:

For there's mony a prince wad be proud to aspire

To my winsome wee Maggie, the pride o Strathyre.

Her lips are like rowans in ripe simmer seen.

And mild as the starlight the glint o' her e'en:

Far sweeter her breath than the scent o' the briar,

And her voice is sweet music in bonnie Strathyre.

Set Flora by Colin, and Maggie by me,

And we'll dance to the pipes swellin' loudly and free,

Till the moon in the heavens climbing higher and higher

Bids us sleep on fresh brackens in bonnie Strathyre.

Though some in the touns o' the Lawlands seek fame

And some will gang sodgerin' far from their hame;

Yet I'll aye herd my cattle, and bigg my ain byre.

And love my ain Maggie in bonnie Strathyre.

Bonnie Strathyre: Lyrics by Harold Boulton (1895)

Music Festival 2014

Following recommendations made by visitors to the 2013 Strathyre Music Festival, Balvaig will be providing a large Marquee at least 120 ft x 40ft to centralise the Folk, Folk-Rock, Contempory and Blues music. Access will be by Festival pass and the new Centralised venue will also have a bar open up to 1am on each day of the Festival. Due to the greater costs of providing a much bigger Festival, it has been necessary to charge admission to the two main venues, whilst as a bonus from many bands, they have also kindly offerd to play additional free slots around the village.

Day or Weekend Passes are available now. See below for details. Please note the Festival pass also permits free acces to the popular Jazz and big band venue as well as Music Workshops. Passes will also provide free entry to the closing Festival Ceilidh Party on the Sunday evening to be held at the main venue.

Please respect our Wildlife and the Environment - Our small group of Wild Campers in 2013 left the area in a very tidy condition and we were very grateful thank you.

Due to circumstances beyond our control, the original designated Wild Camping area at the North of the Village is sadly no longer available as planned. There is now also a R7 Cycle path Extension under construction in this area.

Campers are recommended to stay at the Immervoulin Camp Site which has Tent Pitches available. There is also a Camping site at Balquhidder Braes 2 Miles to the North. Both have shower and toilet facilities.

We will however provide a new Central Festival Camping area for a small number of 2-3 person tents. PLEASE NOTE - Festival camping is by prior application to info@balvaig.co.uk and limited space is available.. Camping Passes are Required. Cars cannot be taken on to the Festival Camping area but may be parked just across the road in the main Festival car park.

Camping rules around Strathyre Village Area: NO OPEN FIRES OR FIRE PITS PERMITTED AT ANY TIME

Please make use of the Toilet facilities provided at the Festival main venue or Market Square Area or at local pubs or cafes

Please take all litter away or use the many bins provided around the Village. This helps minimize the work of the volunteers after the Festival.

Please respect our local Community, Fellow Campers in need of some sleep and our Wildlife :

Where ever possible, Please also consider official camp sites at Immervoulin or Balquhidder Braes where good facilities are provided and prices are reasonable.

Thank You
